Versatile Blogger Nomination
Something that I have learned in the course of starting a blog is that the blogging community is super supportive and also a fun group of folks. We continuously support and encourage each other all over social media, which I think is awesome.
In the course of learning about blogging, I learned that there is something called the Versatile Blogger Award and I was nominated by a wonderful blogger, Melissa Segura, who has Mindfultidbits.com and is a fabulous blogger. Melissa’s blog is a lifestyle and travel blog in which she shares her travel adventures as well as tidbits (hence the name) on food, home, and DIY. Ya’ll need to give it a looksee, you’ll love it!
- Thank the person who nominated you for the award
- Include a link to their blog
- Select and nominate 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
- Tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself
Part of the rules for the nomination is that I need to share 7 things about myself with Melissa that she doesn’t know about me. Of course, why stop at sharing those 7 things with just Melissa, I thought I’d share with all of you as well so, here goes:
7 Things You Didn’t Know About Me
1. I am not a native Texan
I was actually born in West Covina, California, which is a suburb of Los Angeles. I lived all over Cali growing up as my father was a Federal Government employee so we moved a bit. I spent most of my youth in a small town in Southern Cali called Fallbrook where we, as a family, were extremely active in youth baseball. We moved to the San Francisco Bay Area when I was a junior in high school. I was devastated that my parents made us move away from everyone I grew up with that I was angry with my father for weeks. From there, we moved to Napa, Cali (yes, the wine country) where, at one point, I lived on an actual vineyard. I have lived in Cali, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and now Texas.
2. I Met My Husband Online
It’s true! My husband and I met in a chat room many, many years ago before there were even online dating services. We were chat friends with about 50 other people in a private Yahoo chat room and eventually fell in love. For a year, we lived 18 hours apart and he would travel from Mississippi to Oklahoma 1 weekend every month to see me. Now, that’s love! Eventually, I moved to Mississippi and we started our life together. We were married on March 18, 2000, in Dallas, Texas. Another fun fact about our wedding, 18 of our “chat friends” made the trip just to see us get married. In fact, from what we were told, there was an online wager going on about when we would get married. Apparently, everyone in the chat room knew we were going to get married before we did…go figure!
3. I Have A HUGE Bug Phobia
I do NOT like bugs, period! It doesn’t matter what kind of bug it is, I don’t’ like it. I have no idea where my fear or phobia of bugs stems from but I do know that anytime I see one in our home, my husband has to kill it. Here in Texas, there are these horrible brown roaches that, from what I’ve been told, are wood roaches. I honestly don’t care what type of roach they are, they are HUGE and nasty. I can’t stand to even see one of those things so when I do, I freak out and head the other way. My phobia is so bad that when we visited the butterfly center, I couldn’t stand to even look into the roach exhibit. My husband will tell a story about a time when he came home from work to find a 3″ phone book sitting in the middle of the living room floor. I wasn’t home so he lifted it up and found a dead spider beneath it. I had thrown the book on the spider to kill it because I was that scared of it….it’s true, I did that!
4. I LOVE The Water
I am a water baby! I love the beach, lakes, rivers, just water in general. There is something so soothing about the sound of running or rippling water, it relaxes me in minutes. I learned to SCUBA dive just a few years ago and absolutely love it. Getting underwater and just floating along, spending time with the fish, it’s absolute bliss. My husband and I dive together so it’s a great vacation adventure that we can experience together. Our vacations are generally planned around the beach. Whether its here in the U.S., or the Caribbean, we always go to the beach and dive, snorkel, fish, and just chill.
5. I Love Baseball
I love professional baseball! GO STROS! I know, they didn’t win it all this year but they certainly gave it a good effort. I have always loved baseball and I think it’s from my youth. My father was extremely active in youth baseball, to the point of us spending the majority of our youth either building a sports facility or working as scorekeepers, umpires, and in the concession stand. My father was a tournament director as well so we would travel all over Cali to different tournaments and watch games while he ran the tournament. I can’t remember a time in my youth when we weren’t involved in baseball. Also, my oldest brother played semi-pro for several years and I loved going to his games and cheering the team on. I guess it’s always been in my blood and I love a good Astros game any day of the week.
6. I Was An Avid Bowler
Yep, it’s true! Many years ago, I was part of a bowling team with my parents. We bowled in a league every week and I was actually quite good. My average was 179 which is pretty darned good for a girl. I also bowled in city and state tournaments every year and in 1994, I bowled in the National Tournament in Salt Lake City. I was so excited, and nervous to bowl in that tournament but since it was with my mom, I knew it would be fun. I actually ended up landing #4 in the nation for my group, I was so proud of myself! I miss those days, spending time with my parents having fun!
7. My Favorite Food
This is a tough one! I guess if I have to pick just one, I’d say baby back ribs. When I lived in New Mexico, I loved Tony Romas, still do but we don’t have them here. When I moved to Oklahoma, I really started having good bar-b-que and some of the best ribs ever. When we lived in Mississippi, there was only 1 place that has really good bar-b-que and that was The Shed. If you ever get to the coast of Mississippi, you must try them out. Now that I live in Texas, there are several really good bar-b-que joints, it’s really a matter of taste and preference. I love ribs with, and without, sauce but they must always be seasoned perfectly. No amount of sauce can make up for bland, overcooked ribs. Just thinking about it is making me want to go out and get some right now.
I am so honored that Melissa chose me to be part of her nomination list, THANK YOU! I now nominate the following bloggers to be part of this wonderful group:
