It seems everywhere you go these days; there is a “signature drink.”  You know, that one drink that you can only get at that event or location.  In Roatan, Honduras, the Monkey La La is that drink.

We discovered this sweet, coconut-flavored drink on our first trip to Honduras, and each time we return, we have to have at least one Monkey La La.

Where the drink originated from, I have no idea, but I can tell you that there is not a single time we have been to the island that someone has not asked for one. They are that popular.

Now, the recipe for making a Monkey La La is really in the bartender’s heads and varies from bar to bar.  I have found several versions of the recipe online and have found that this is by far the closest I can find to the actual drink found on the island.

Mix a few Monkey La La’s, sit back with your friends or family, and enjoy a little taste of the island.  Who knows, maybe this will give you the desire to take a trip to the island.
